limerick’s hidden homeless

A place to call home is the most fundamental of human rights. ‘Home’ is a powerful word. It means many things to many people. The word home means a safe and secure place for you and your family.Right now, there are more than 70 homeless families across Limerick city. There are many more hidden homeless at risk. These families are often forced to seek shelter at the homes of friends and family, or forced into emergency B&B accommodation with cramped conditions and no cooking facilities. Almost 80% of these families are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to economic factors such as unemployment, lack of affordable housing and a lack of social housing.

We all take having a home for granted at some stage of our life, but imagine waking up tomorrow morning to the news that you had just lost your home – that everything you had worked so hard to build for you and your family would be taken away. What would you do? Where would you go? What would it mean for you and your family?
