asd: the invisible disability…

An Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Their ability to develop relationships is affected, as is their capacity to understand other people’s feelings and the social rules of communication. Children with ASD can present very differently, as every individual is affected in a variety of ways and to very different degrees. This is why it is called ‘the autism spectrum’.

My idea stems from the misconceptions that face adults and children with autism. I created an awareness campaign in the form of a publication aimed at educating the parents/guardians of a newly diagnosed child about the disability. Finding out your child has ASD can be daunting. The intention of the book is to build a better understanding of the disability that is more helpful to aid parents/guardians begin their ASD journey with their child.
