The RSA Student Design Awards is an annual international competition for higher education students who are committed to finding innovative solutions to social problems. The competition challenges students to think differently about design by tackling briefs focused on real world problems. Of the nine students shortlisted in the Moving Pictures category, four were from the Visual Communications course at Limerick School of Art & Design.
In mid-May, all four students were invited to London to meet with the judging panel and, on June 1, it was announced that Sarah Nyhan had won the NHS England Award with her submission, ‘A Helping Hand’.
Commenting on Sarah’s submission, the judges said, “Sarah had a clear understanding of the social movement and scored very highly on design thinking and ‘heart and soul’. We liked the hand-crafted and human feel, which was in line with the NHS ‘thinking on health as a social movement.”
