bee smart

The title of this brief was “Reaction” and I chose to deal with subject matter that I feel is most deserving of a positive reaction; Colony Collapse Disorder. Colony collapse disorder (CCD) is a phenomenon in which worker bees from a beehive or European honey bee colony abruptly disappear. The mechanisms of CCD are still unknown, but two main factors have been proposed as causative agents: malnutrition (loss of wildflower habitat) and pathogens (increased use of pesticides).

“Bee Smart” is an awareness pack which aims to educate young children about the importance of bees in relation to our environment and inspire them to make “Bee Friendly” changes in their gardens. Through educating the younger generation in this way and encouraging them to take a hands on approach to the care of their environment, it is hoped that species losses such as CCD can be curbed or prevented in the future.
