the original strategy game
Chess is a game that comes with some preconceptions, especially in contemporary culture, where the gaming console has taken over the strategy game format. This project was my way of showing how chess is not just for the elite or the highly-intelligent, my way of giving the game of chess a little bit of the edge that it needs to compete with modern technology. The rich imagery and history behind chess provided me with a fantastic vehicle to show how chess has intersected with other areas of popular culture in the last half a century or so and hopefully will tell people some fascinating things they never knew about this ancient game, inspire chess players to get out the board and encourage non-chess players to maybe learn a little more.
