1969 – Sesame Street
This project allowed us to explore all the events that took place in 1969 and focus on one aspect. I chose Sesame Street as my subject for this project. Sesame Street first aired in 1969 and then became one of the most famous kids’ television shows of all time. The fold out booklets aim to celebrate Sesame Street for how ground-breaking it was in it’s time; as it was aimed towards children from less wealthy backgrounds and it educated them on the basics.
I created 5-fold outs that encapsulate the main areas of the television show– the educational aspect, the way the show was structured and how it remained relevant. Each section then focused on shapes, numbers and the alphabet, which was the foundation for learning by the show. On the back of the fold outs are posters that aim to create a sense of nostalgia for adults that watched the show when they were children.
