the need for freedom
Freedom is considered a fundamental human need according to Human Scale Development developed by Manfred Max-Neef. Fundamental human needs are constant through all human cultures and across historical time periods. What changes over time and between cultures is the strategies by which these needs are satisfied.
There has been many instances throughout history where this fundamental need can be seen through the eyes of prisoners. Prisoners have found different ways of duping the security and achieving the freedom which many thought was impossible. This was accomplished by constantly being creative and innovative in a high risk environment.
