our search for spirituality
A recent survey showed that 277,237 people in Ireland said they have no religion, while only 40% of people that described themselves as ‘Catholic’ go to mass each week. An increasing number of people are finding new ways to be spiritual, stepping away from traditional Catholicism. The editorial created as part of my final year project explores our reaction to religion in Ireland.
“People are breaking away from the traditional churches because they are perceived as too dogmatic and moralistic. They put too much emphasis on Religious beliefs rather than on the Religious experience, but people are more interested in the latter.”
The essentially typographic solution takes characteristics from the Gutenberg Bible, used to represent traditional Religious theory. It slowly moves away from the traditional into a more experimental solution while the underlining feel is still religious and spiritual the solution becomes more alternative, just as our impression of spirituality and faith has evolved.
