tír gan teanga?
Languages form an important part of a country’s identity. With the numbers of fluent Irish-speakers decreasing each year in Ireland, are we losing a distinct part of our identity as a nation? I set out to explore this question for my final year project.
The campaign focuses around a 70 page publication which, through the use of typography and photography, questions both our understanding of Irish and how it’s being taught today in our schools. Accompanying posters visualise our views and opinions on this topical subject. “A certain richness of communication and connection is lost when a person is unable to speak the language of his or her ancestors.” – Edna MacLean
