language of romance

Romance and romantic language are a dying art. Contrasting modern romantic imagery with classical romantic text, this book acts as a visual narrative documenting modern day romance. The artificial light provided by today’s night life helps to convey the superficial environment modern day romance occurs in. These images are contrasted further by use of text from ‘Wuthering Heights’, where Catherine professes her eternal love for Heathcliff.

Postcards by their ephemeral nature help to emphasise how little importance we place on romance today. Photographs of nature symbolise the love between Emily Brontes two main characters while the text of Cathy Kelly’s modern romantic novels creates a sharp contrast and allows us to see the dramatic change romantic language has undergone for the worst.
