things are better now
‘Things are Better Now’ is an exploration into the visual language of nostalgia. I tried to create a narrative in which the aesthetic did not depend on a particular style or era. From my research and a lot of personal soul searching I came to the realisation that a majority of the things we are nostalgic about never happened as we think they did. Often times it is the remnants from the past we remember, the photographs or old film which conjure up an idealised version of events.
My goal was not to romanticise about the past nor to diminish it’s importance. I was trying to illustrate this feeling that is so connected to imagery, from collective nostalgia to my own personal thoughts.
